Molecular Testing

Assay of Chinese Materia Medica

In the combination with microscopy, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique is used for application to quality assessment of Chinese Materia Medica (CMM). HPLC is a separation technique consisting of a solid stationary phase and a liquid mobile phase. After the extraction process of the CMM, the sample is injected through an injector and carried into the column (stationary phase) by the mobile phase, the components are separated on the stationary phase and pass through the detector, a chromatogram is then recorded. Assay of CMM by HPLC is a method in the quantitative determination of the active ingredients or markers present in a CMM according to the Hong Kong Chinese Material Medica (HKCMM) Standards.
