X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)
XPS, also known as ESCA (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis), is the most widely used surface analysis technique because of its relative simplicity in use and data interpretation. When the sample is irradiated with x-ray which stimulate emission of core level electrons from atoms within the surface region. The kinetic energy of the emitted photoelectrons provides qualitative, quantitative and chemical state of elements (except H & He) in the surface.
