Materials Research Centre
MRC was established in November 1992 in recognition to growing importance of the materials science and technology area, identified both by the Government and the tertiary institutions as one of the major technology areas for development and growth. The Centre came into physical existence in 1994. In the local scene the MRC/CEM is unique in the sense that it serves both (i) the role of a research center with focused research directions and (ii) the role of a facility for materials preparation and characterization serving the University community at large. It houses a diverse range of equipment for materials synthesis, characterization and processing. Its present members come from thirteen departments or units within the Polytechnic University.
A dedication of the Centre is to offer services to local industry. Apart from taking up routine testing work, the Centre would also in carry out high-level consultancy projects. The Centre supports Teaching Company Schemes and other projects that have direct industrial relevance.
In addition to playing a coordinating/ lubricating role in materials research, the Centre is also open to all PolyU full-time staff and their associated researchers including graduate students and assistants working in various fields of materials science and engineering.
