Micro-/Nano- Device Fabrication and Sensing Technologies (DFST)

DFST enables a wide variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects. In 2006, the world’s first smart railway monitoring system was developed. This is one of a few state-of-the-art photonics laboratories in the world with the capability to fabricate novel photonic crystal fibres and fibre Bragg gratings. The latest addition to the lab is the laser micro- and nano-fabrication technology platform, which allows for research involving optical fibre related lab-on-chip nanostructures to be carried out.
