Nitrate and Nitrite Test

Nitrate and nitrite are chemicals used in food as preservatives. Although it is unlikely to cause acute health effects under normal consumption of food containing nitrate and nitrite, children who are more sensitive to nitrite can lead to the development of "blue baby syndrome" (methemoglobinemia) with reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells and blue coloration of the skin. In addition, exposure to higher levels of nitrate and nitrite has been associated with increased incidence of cancer in adults. The nitrate and nitrite level in food is thus a great concern in food safety. We are now offering the determination of nitrate and nitrite levels in food.
